Picking wild vegetables/mushrooms

Nemagaridake

Speaking of bamboo shoots in Karuizawa, it is Nemagari-dake.
Most common bamboo shoots are Moso bamboo, but Moso bamboo does not grow well in Karuizawa because it is too cold there.
Therefore, it is exclusively Nemagaritake mushrooms.

Miso soup with bamboo shoots and canned mackerel

This is Nagano's local cuisine.
I sometimes use canned tuna instead of canned mackerel, and it's very delicious.
Please try it.

Shiode

Shiode is sometimes called the king of wild vegetables.
It can also be harvested in Karuizawa. It is said to be called mountain asparagus, but once you experience it, the taste of regular asparagus is bland and you will no longer be satisfied with it.

Bad news

Karuizawa is home to many wild vegetables and mushrooms.
In the past, townspeople would enjoy wild vegetables and mushrooms at that time of year.
However, at the time of the 311 nuclear power plant accident, due to the wind direction, unfortunately Karuizawa was not completely unaffected.
At one time, air radiation levels were relatively high in some places (especially in areas along the eastern prefectural border), but they have now fallen to levels that are no problem at all.
Monitoring in Karuizawa Town Measurement results of air dose using post

However, it seems that they have not yet reached the point where they can eat wild vegetables and mushrooms.
Even now, people who enjoy wild vegetables and mushrooms seem to be traveling a little further west.
For details, see Please refer to the radioactive substance measurement results of wild vegetables produced in the 27 degrees prefecture.

If you open a map of Karuizawa, it's right in the middle and has great access to anywhere. After having lots of fun, refresh yourself in the artificial hot spring jet bath that is available 24 hours a day. For dinner, you'll be satisfied with the owner's proud European-style home cooking. This is a pension run by a mom and an owner who loves sports. In particular, we often go out to play golf together. In the winter, I also go out to watch ice hockey and curling games.
