New/Old Karuizawa Minami Karuizawa Shiozawa Nakakaruizawa western
New/Old Karuizawa
The nearest station is Karuizawa Station, Kyu Karuizawa Ginza and Prince Outlet Convenient area.
Old Karuizawa was a bustling time when the upper class went to their villas to escape the summer heat, and the famous Tokyo shops favored by these people had no time to stay in Tokyo in the summer and continue operating. Nara started by opening a store here as a way to escape the summer heat.
Recently, more and more stores are open in the winter, but back then, many stores were open only in the summer, and it was customary to hold bargains at the end of the season. Taking this as a hint, the Prince outlet shopping center was built.

The Shin-Karuizawa area used to be a place where aquatic plants grew on the sloppy ground called Yachi, and it was not a place where you could walk. For this reason, the old Nakasendo route ran along the mountainside from Karuizawa to what is now known as the Rizan Line. The R18 ran on top of an earthen embankment, and it is said that at the time, the old Karuizawa townscape could be seen from Karuizawa Station. However, due to environmental changes such as a large influx of earth and sand due to landslides caused by typhoons, an increase in the amount of groundwater taken due to the increase in population, the separation of the groundwater system due to Shinkansen and bypass construction, and modern construction methods, the Shin-Karuizawa area It has become a much more livable area than before.
From Karuizawa Station to Kyukaruizawa, there is a loop bus (east/south inner loop) or a shuttle service, but there are also more fashionable shops, so it's fun to take a stroll to Kyukaruizawa.

Karuizawa syndrome

Karuizawa is a villa area and the population increases by more than 10 times during the season. It is also a tourist destination, and it is said that store sales can vary more than 100 times between the season and off-season. Pensions also recruit part-time workers, but many shops cannot survive without the help of part-time workers during the season. The manga Karuizawa Syndrome (originally written by Yoshihisa Tagami) depicts the youth of many young people who gathered in Karuizawa. A live-action drama version was also planned, but it was canceled due to an unfortunate accident.
Some of the shops where the story took place and where young people gathered after work still remain. Kugetsudo and Bronco etc.

Later, due to appeals from villa families and residents who wished for a quiet Karuizawa, nighttime traffic restrictions were implemented on the main street in front of the station, and with the help of changing times, Karuizawa became the quiet place it is today.

Karuizawa real estate selection

The area in front of Karuizawa Station is lined with so many real estate agents that it has been nicknamed the real estate agent street.
Karuizawa has many villa areas. Former Karuizawa villa area, Minamibara/Nangaoka villa area, Remote mountain villa area, Sengataki villa area, Hoshino villa area, Mitsui no Mori villa area, Tsurutame villa area, etc.
Recently, there are many cases of retired people moving to Karuizawa. The actual location of each district varies considerably depending on the season.
Why not try researching based on pensions? You may also hear the harsh opinions of locals.

If you come to Karuizawa, you definitely want to ride the red bus!

Red buses generally run on time without getting stuck in heavy traffic jams, even in the peak season.
Due to heavy fog coming from the Usui side, service may be suspended. Please check the operation status.
From the "Miharashidai", there is a promenade that runs parallel to the old Nakasendo road, and you can also go hiking.
At the several teahouses on the mountain pass near Miharashidai, we recommend the Usui Pass specialty, chikaramochi.
There is also the Kumano Empress Metabolism (Kumano Shrine), which is a rare shrine where the center of the main shrine is the prefectural border. This is managed by both prefectures, so
There are two offices and two offering boxes. There is a sacred linden tree that is said to be 800 years old, and it is also a popular power spot.

Lake New Town is an area developed during the bubble period, and at that time, Mitsukoshi also opened a store on the shores of Lake Geneva during the summer, making it very crowded.
Compared to Kyu-Karuizawa and Naka-Karuizawa, there are fewer trees and the image is brighter, but this area is also a region with a lot of fog that rises from Usui.
From Minami Karuizawa, you can pass through Hocchi and go to the Shiozawa, Naka Karuizawa, and Nishi Karuizawa districts.
Since the area of origin was mainly agricultural, there was still vast land left. >Hatsuchi Ichiba This is also the case, but it may be an area that will develop in the future.

You can watch the craftsmen carefully make school bags from the spacious garden where you can fully experience nature!

Asama Sanso Incident

It is an incident that cannot be forgotten by people of a certain age.
The cornerstone of security (the Asama Sanso Incident Memorial Monument), where the incident took place, remains here in Minami Karuizawa. Although the location of the police station has moved, Asama Sanso, where the incident took place, remains almost as it was at the time.
It's a little difficult to find, and it's not a tourist destination, so if you really want to see it, it's best to talk to the pension owner.

600 meters from Shinano Railway Nakakaruizawa Station, 7 minutes walk. There is a nature trail in the forest in front of the pension, adjacent to Yukawa and a park. Recommended for a refreshing walk in the morning and evening. It has a great view of Mt. Asama, and is in a good location for the stone church, Harunire Terrace, drop-in hot springs, and Lake Shiozawa.

The nearest station is Shinano Oiwake, which is located in a quiet area surrounded by nature, where you won't get caught up in traffic jams, and where you can see Mt. Asama nearby.
Compared to other areas, there is less fog and it is brighter.
As a tourist spot, there is Oiwake-juku. Aburaya Ryokan has made a new start as the Shinano Oiwake Cultural Magnetic Field.
There is also Mikage water (described later).
Since it is not a tourist center, there are some charming shops that are hidden away.
This may be an area for connoisseurs who know Karuizawa well.

Surprisingly close Oiwake-juku

It may be a bit inconvenient for transportation other than by car, but Oiwake-juku is surprisingly close.
Oiwake-juku is about 1.4km from Shinano-Oiwake Station. Even if you walk, it will take about 20 minutes to go uphill and 15 minutes to go back down.
It is almost the same as walking from Nakakaruizawa to the Hoshino area such as Harunire.
Closer to Karuizawa Station than Old Karuizawa. However, the roads along the way are narrow and there are few shops.
To get to the Oiwake area by bus, take the west course, and from the station you can get on from Shinano Oiwake Station or Nakakaruizawa Station.
If you are heading towards Ohinata, it is the North Course. Similarly, the stations are Shinano-Oiwake Station and Naka-Karuizawa Station.
If you are traveling from the east side, which includes Karuizawa Station, you can take the east/south loop bus and transfer to the west or north course at Naka-Karuizawa Station or Karuizawa Hospital (transfers are possible).

Mikage water and Sasazawa water

When I heard that a TV personality I sometimes see on TV said, ``If I were to build a villa in Karuizawa, I would like it to be in a place where I can see the Mikage Irrigation Water,'' I knew that this person was from Karuizawa Dori.
Although it is quite amazing to see it in person, Mikage Yosui is surprisingly not famous.

Now, the Mikage Irrigation Water uses Sengataki as its water source and extends all the way to Komoro in an irrigation canal drawn by the Komoro Clan.
The photo on the left is the ``warm canal'' of Mikage Irrigation Water in the Nishi-Karuizawa area, an attempt to widen the width of the irrigation canal and use sunlight to warm the water as much as possible.
On the other hand, the Shinozawa Irrigation Waterway is an irrigation canal whose water source is Oiwake, and it extends to Lake Senroku next to the Saku Interchange.
These two irrigation canals intersect in the middle, but apparently it was designed to prevent the water from mixing. Does it look like an ancient Roman aqueduct?
At that time, water rights were extremely strict and were considered military secrets of the clan. It is forbidden to put it on maps, and while Mikage Yosui is known to some extent, there are still very few people who know where Shinozawa Yosui runs.
The Shinozawa Irrigation Water is under the jurisdiction of the Iwamurata Domain (currently Saku City).
Although these irrigation canals are located in Karuizawa, they are still managed by Komoro City and Saku City.
A few years ago, while constructing a 2,000 tsubo building that was said to be a vacation home for a foreign IT businessman, a fallen tree caused the Mikage canal flowing beneath it to overflow, although it is not clear if this had anything to do with the construction. I've had a bit of a commotion.
At this time too, Karuizawa Town could do nothing but watch.
Mikage Yosui is not a major issue in Karuizawa. This may be the reason.
